Our mission is to bring these beautiful distinct artistry of luxury to the wider world while helping sustain the art form and its communities, by streamlining the processes to minimalise carbon footprint and keeping the product authentic. Our aim is to give back a percentage of every shawl sold to help aid the next generation of artists of this heritage.
Pashmina is one of the most loved style accessory that has been introduced to the wider world in the last century. Originally only worn by aristocratic and royal families, to symbolise luxury, prestige, excellent artistry and craftsmanship.
Pashmina is a particular process used to procure cashmere wool by a specific breed of goats called Changthangi (Capra Hircus) from the Himalayan valleys, including Kashmir, Ladakh, Nepal and Tibet. The under fleece of the goat is used for its luxurious softness and warmth.
They are referred to as ‘Pashm’, a Persian word meaning ‘soft gold’. It is known that the Changhthanghi breeds produce the best cashmere wool of all.
Finest Quality
This wool is refined to a specific process in the state of Kashmir and becomes the finest and purest Pashmina.
The fine fibres of this wool varies from 10-16 microns in diameter and they are 6-8 times thinner than a human hair.
Numerous other breeds of cashmere-producing goats exist throughout the world. Some of the breeds are the Malra, Chigu, Licheng, Tibetan Liaoning.
At Luxshay, we feel privileged and proud to source these products directly from the communities who are the experts of this fine art.
